About us

The Blue Hill Observatory Wireless Society (BHO-WS) is a non-profit youth and family amateur radio club sponsored by and operated under the auspices of Blue Hill Observatory & Science Center.

Educational Purpose

BHO-WS strives to introduce youth, adults, and their families to radio electronics, the art of radio communications, the importance of the Amateur Radio Service, and the rules of the Federal Communications Commission (FCC).

BHO-WS also strives to spark interest in electronics, physics, meteorology, astronomy, and other STEM sciences through club activities and the use of the Amateur Radio Service.

BHO-WS provides an educational forum for advancing skills in the communications and technical phases of Amateur Radio use.

With its proximity to and relationship with Blue Hill Observatory & Science Center, a STEM education center with an environmental science interest, BHO-WS will encourage people of all ages to pursue interests related to weather, climate, astronomy, kites, SkyWarn severe weather spotting, and space-based communications.

BHO-WS will encourage all members to join and/or support the American Radio Relay League (ARRL) to support ARRL’s national efforts in support of local clubs. BHO-WS will strive to educate all members about the missions and functions of ARRL and its programs, especially the Amateur Radio Emergency Services® program (ARES®), to ensure that BHO-WS members abide by ARRL and ARES policies, rules, and guidelines.
